She had escaped. In that split second I had to think, it crossed my mind to let her go and forget her forever. The girl wasn’t who I thought she’d be, so different from Dove. I would’ve given my life to save Dove if I had to. But with Lily, it was different. She had a darkness that seeped into her bones, one she didn’t hide.
I told myself a true knight saved people they didn’t like. Otherwise, there’d be no courage in the act. Because being brave meant protecting those you didn’t love, without distinction.
