“You didn’t tell me they were relatives,” I blurted out, unable to stop feeling annoyed by that detail.
“No one was supposed to know the entire plan,” Fabricio poured himself a drink and sat down. We were alone on the balcony.
I looked at the horizon, the hills blocked the view, I couldn’t see the palace where my wife and children were.
“Yes, except me. You forget that I’m the king,” I looked at the count sternly. “I’m an exception. Don’t you think so?”
He looked at me with fear, he knew that when I spoke, I provoked that in people. However, that fear gave me peace of mind. I knew that a king had to provoke that dose of fear in his friends and enemies alike. Like an equilibrium that was not challenged, that fear made me feel alive.
