Chapter 298. Tom’s House
CHRIS
This wasn’t really bad, considering how much we had suffered. Getting to a kind of home was, by far, quite comforting. The farm was not imposing, rather humble, with some crops scattered between the dry and infertile soil. The animals were skinny, the cows with sad eyes and the pigs were small. It seemed to me that the man had been sincere at least in that, it was a point in his favor.
“You look like you’re about to give up, friend.”
Ian wrote, with a somewhat distressed face. I grimaced and lay down on the grass. We were in the backyard of the house. Sallie was inside, helping the guy in the kitchen. Which I found strange, because she wasn’t the kind of person who cooked. Whatever.
Lily, for her part, who knows what she was doing. At least here we were safe.
“I guess this mission is beyond me. Maybe Jacob or Larry would have faced all the obstacles with skill. But I got this one and that’s how it ended,” I said, with a burst of sincerity.
