Chapter 304. Pleading and Waiting

Wouldn’t open the door. Despair filled me with every passing second without a response. It was as if time became thick and heavy; I saw no hope or light to break through that intense weight. In this state, I felt a sense of utter helplessness closing in. Carmen followed me, unnoticed until she took my hand.
“She’ll open it,” she said with a gentle smile. “We just need to wait.”
“I’ve been cruel to her, judged her harshly. My God, I feel terrible.” Tears escaped me.
A creak echoed. The door began to open. The sound reached my ears like beautiful music, a growing ray of hope. The silence that followed meant nothing to me. I let out an exclamation before rushing into the room.
