Chapter 303. Stinging
CHRIS
“They’re still sleeping. I’m a little sleepy myself. Could you please wake me up when something important happens?” Sallie made an amused face, which made Tom laugh.
“Don’t worry, of course we will,” he replied, indicating that she could go to sleep.
I noticed, when I entered the room, that there were several beds prepared, as if it had hosted many people in the past. Perhaps when he had a wife, his life was different. People who work in the countryside have another personality, more reserved. At least that’s what I’ve seen from living in the city for many years.
Sallie walked over to one of the beds and threw herself down like a sack. The man was smiling.
“I can offer you a cup of coffee,” he said, seeing that I wasn’t going to sleep.
I watched the beds for a while to see if I felt sleepy. But no, I wasn’t tired. Maybe it was because I didn’t like the idea of all of us falling asleep. It was the habit of always being on alert, I suppose.
