Mirna looked at me with extremely red eyes; it was clear that she was making a great effort not to cry, breathing in a broken way, and trying to suppress all that pain. I couldn’t understand even a bit of her suffering, being she a victim of a cruel and ruthless fate, trapped in the clutches of a perverse and mysterious man. I also didn’t know how she saw me, whether as a queen with whom she had a score to settle or as a friend she could trust.
It was a complicated matter; my heart asked me to help her on her journey, even though I felt very uncomfortable when I was with her. That beating in my chest told me that this was affecting me negatively, and I decided to ignore it in order to save her.
