As I tried to keep my mind from wandering or breaking under the substances of that increasingly thick smoke, I came to the conclusion that the woman speaking to me was the one who had made that strange weapon. She kept talking to me as if nothing was happening, making me waste time. But I couldn’t rush even if I really wanted to; I was slowly sinking into the trance that I was resisting.
“Keep calm, interrogator,” said the woman, with a hoarse voice that tried to sound musical.
“Shut up,” I said, annoyed. She was winning, and it was making my blood boil.
The woman laughed subtly as if she knew that I would fall sooner or later.
“Oh, young man, you should try to relax a little,” she began to say, her footsteps circling the door. I could locate her. My foot was still paralyzed; damn it, how I hated this situation and these fanatics.
