Chapter 12

"Where did he go?" Sofia asked Diego as soon as she came out of the bathroom. "Where did the new student go?"

Diego tried to make sense of why Sofia was acting weirdly especially when she made it clear in the first place that she wasn't interested in approaching him.

"I don't know where he went to," Diego tried to calm her down.

"What do you mean you don't know where he went?" Sofia said insistently. "He was right here just a minute ago!"

Diego looked around the room, perplexed. The new student had indeed vanished without a trace. One moment he was sitting at the table by the window, hunched over and scribbling in a notebook. The next, the chair was empty.

"I was just talking to Jessica," Diego said, gesturing to his friend across the aisle. "I didn't see him leave. Maybe he went to the bathroom or something?"
