Chapter 88

Then, with terrifying swiftness, the beast launched itself at David with a snarling howl. Eve's scream was cut off by David's anguished cry of pain and shock as the creature's massive jaws clamped down on his shoulder, tearing into his flesh.

The next few moments were a blur of violence, fur, and blood as Eve watched in abject horror, unable to process what was happening. All she could do was scream, over and over, as the beast savaged her beloved husband before her very eyes.

When the creature finally retreated, leaving David's mauled, motionless body crumpled on the floor, Eve felt her legs give out beneath her. She collapsed, a keening wail tearing from her throat as she scrambled towards him, cradling his head in her lap.

"David! Oh god, David please...please don't leave me!" She was barely coherent through her hysterics, frantically trying to put pressure on his catastrophic wounds even as she knew deep down it was futile.
