Chapter 67. Still on the Road
The following day, Skye awoke first, which was strange to her to because they usually both awoke together. Of course, their rooster had something to do with that, but the thought of waking before him tugged at Skye’s heart. It was still very early, and the sun only peeked over the horizon, giving Skye some time to reflect on yesterday’s conversation. She sat up and watched the day come alive with the sun’s warmth and the birds chirping. Raine rustled beside her as she stretched the ache out of her muscles.
“Morning, sweetness,” Raine said with a smile and kissed her cheek.
“Morning, my dear. Did you sleep as well as I did?”
“I always sleep well with you by my side,” He said with a wink.
His words cut through her, piercing her chest and twisting her insides because of their conversation yesterday. She wasn’t exactly nice when she broched the top of the twins. She gave him a half smile and reached out for him with trembling fingers.
Her right arm pulsated
