Chapter 16

Freya Rose

The atmosphere downstairs was one of confusion and awkwardness. Amber had obviously informed Cassie and Tyler of something, but I wasn't sure of what exactly. Tyler had a soft and comforting smile as he stood between Amber and Cassie by the fireplace. Amber was scowling at me with her hands on her hips. Well, I say, scowling. It was more of a half-wink-looking expression because she only had one eye. An eye patch covered the other. Cassie had her arms folded across her chest, and her expression was pure rage. It looked like she should have had smoke blowing out of her ears and nostrils. The baby was in a car seat resting on the coffee table, and someone had placed a muslin over it so that I couldn't see fully. I could see an outline of the child.

Avary had fallen asleep on the couch and was covered over with one of my super soft pink blankets. She looked so peaceful and full of innocence. I hadn't felt anything like it before, but my heart melted while gazing
