Chapter 139. The Sunblade’s Final Promise

Eryndor’s POV

At last, the terrible night drew to a close. Dawn broke over the shattered city, its pale light cascading through the dust-laden air, promising to wash away some of the sorrow. One by one, the humans emerged from the safety of the underground bunker, blinking against the brightness, hungry for fresh air. They moved warily through streets choked with rubble, picking through the debris for anything—tools, food, scrap metal—that might still be of use in a world undone by violence.

Miraculously, only one building stood unscathed amid the ruin: the great cathedral. Its soaring spires pierced the morning sky, stained-glass windows still intact, casting fractured rainbows onto the cracked cobblestones below. Here, most of the survivors had sought refuge overnight. Inside, the vaulted arches felt impossibly quiet after the chaos outside.
