Two days before the summit, our journey began. Having finally been recognized as an official pack, each of us was assigned a rank. At the very top stood the Alpha: The Goddess Rene. There was simply no one else suited to lead us—besides her wisdom and experience, she also possessed the stature of a true alpha wolf.

Next in line was our Beta, Nora. She was the pack’s greatest fighter after the Goddess herself. I, too, had been considered for Beta, but I politely declined. My wolf form and my magical training were still too unsteady; I lacked the necessary experience.
