The funeral was almost deserted. The guests who had accompanied Marco to his final resting place had left one by one, leaving Cathy with her children, in-laws, and grandchildren: Leora and Noah, Alfred and Terence, and Elena.
After nearly two weeks of struggling, Marco finally took his last breath in the hospital.
Marco’s hand had been caught in a grape press and had to be amputated above the elbow.
However, Marco was diabetic, and the wound from the amputation was difficult to heal. Eventually, the wound became infected and rapidly attacked his brain. Marco fell into a coma on the sixth day after surgery and died two days later.
