I was leading the last meeting before the child abduction trial, with some staff, when my phone on the table vibrated. 

I looked at the number, it was my personal assistant at the hospital. She should have known my schedule today and it was my time to lead the meeting, why was she still calling? 

“Hello, Tonya, what’s wrong? I’m--” 

“I know, sir, I’m sorry,” Tonya’s panicked voice cut me off. “But this is an emergency. Ms. Leora, she was stabbed in the cafeteria and is now in the emergency unit. Mr. McKanne brought her here.” 

I didn’t answer, but ran out of the meeting room while shouting orders to the staff and drove to the hospital.
