Chapter 14
What passed as the conference room at the Denver Police Department was about the only space that everyone in the building loved. It was a really large and tastefully decorated hall with white walls, a grey ceiling, glass floor, and a large wooden table that was polished up to give it a superb sheen. Around the table were eight chairs lined on the left and an identical eight on the right.
A large projector was at the center wall, with two whiteboards on either side of it. A water dispenser stood by the left corner, a printer, paper shredder, and coffee maker at the right. On the table were two folders, a cup of coffee that looked over-creamed, and an ashtray that looked a little cold, like it had been left there the day before. Smith was certain the man was not a heavy smoker. Even if he couldn’t be certain if he’d smoked or not, he was sure Martin wouldn’t bring it to the office, certainly not to the briefing room.
