Chapter 17
The conference room was a little dim; it was late at night, about 8:52 p.m. In the normal sense, the night had only just begun for night crawlers and the younger generation that fed off going to the club and making merry when the sun went down. But for those in the government pockets, aka the public service, aka the 9-to-6 job, the night was far gone, and they should probably have been in bed.
That was exactly how Teddy felt when his superior, Martin, asked him and Smith to do the briefing that day. It didn’t matter if it was past their working hours and they’d possibly made plans for the night with some pretty lady or with a few bottles of sweetened alcohol. Martin was a slow man alright, but once he wanted to work, then he was working, come hell or high water. In a way, Smith and Teddy found it really foolish and had actually elaborated on the foolishness of the process at some point in their office.
