Chapter 20
“See? Even big boy here has got the joke! Where did you leave your brains at? Huh?” Martin asked Smith and then shook his head like Smith was being the dumb one for not getting his sexual innuendos.
“I think he understood you, sir,” Teddy responded.
“I bet he did. He was just trying to be modest with me, like he doesn’t know what some sore—”
“I understood you, sir. I really did. I got the joke!” Smith said and burst into a good laugh for effect.
Teddy joined in, and Martin laughed even more, believing they found him funny when, in fact, they were trying to get him to be quiet and not say any more of such jokes again. It made the younger men uncomfortable; it was one thing coming from someone else, but from Martin, it was off, and to think that the lady in question was just a few meters away, in a cell, made it rather unethical.
