Chapter 24
On that night, Martin would never have thought he wouldn’t ever see his chubby daughter again or drive her to prom, nor did it cross his mind that his wife would be receiving his belongings in a cardboard box and a flag would be raised at his funeral.
But then, the day had other plans for him. Life always had other plans; sometimes they checked in and you got a bad feeling and stayed away from a certain task, other times they didn’t check in and they caught you unawares.
Either way, life has its own plans, and most times it didn’t go in sync with what we plotted out. That’s exactly why people prayed and wished that somehow life went in sync with what they had already mapped out.
There were two vans, camouflaged in grass and parked deep in the bushes closest to Flamingo’s. The third van was a good distance away, posing as a delivery van, off-loading ceramic vases and other porcelain things into a semi-truck. The men worked and cursed at each other in Spanish while,
