“Do you want me to call the school and tell them you won’t be going in the next few days?”
My Mom asks me as I’m stirring my coffee silently. It’s not that I’m heartbroken because of the fact my father died, or the funeral or anything. I mean, I almost didn’t go. And it’s not like I miss him. You can’t miss something that hasn’t been yours, right?
“It’s fine, Mom,” I say, still watching the swirling black liquid.
“Okay. But if you change your mind, I can still...”
“Yeah, I’m off then.”
I head out, checking if I’ve taken my car for the bus on my way out when I look up and see Nathan’s car parked down the road.
It’s not even 7:00 yet. I just got out as soon as I could as I didn’t want to stay home. It’s early for school, but I couldn’t sleep much anyway.
I have no idea what he’s doing here, so I rush down the road and he gets out the moment I’m close enough.
