Defeated. Not good enough.
Rejected.
Unworthy.
It’s the reminder that no matter what you do, you still won’t be good enough. The accusation that all those years you’ve spent on doing something, on improving yourself, have been in vain.
Lost. Few things hurt more than that. The loss of what you’ve fought for. And we had been so close tonight. 5-1-1 to 5-0-3. Close-cut. But that doesn’t matter.
We lost. It also doesn’t matter if I scored as per usual. More than anyone. Because recently, and because Jeremy has been here every time now, I want to make him proud.
But that doesn’t matter.
The result is we lost. And Jared says it’s my fault. Says doesn’t describe it. He’s furious and he’s shouting at me in the locker room after the game.
