To be fair if anything should have reminded her of him naturally, it should be an underworld event where there was murder and torture and kidnapping. He was very much known for that. But it wasn’t just his face and his name and his unexpected kindness that she tried hard not to remember. And she was not being reminded of that now.
Growing up inquisitive, she had read so many stories where a woman was kidnapped and ended up falling in love with her kidnapper and she had hated those stories. She felt like what those women felt was not really love but dependence due to the conditioning of being trapped in the same space with no one but their kidnappers. Weeks after she left Carlos’s house she was sure that she would eventually forget about him and she would realize that she never quite loved him.
