Carlos was fuming on the way out. He was so out of it that he almost missed the vibration of his phone in his pocket.

It was his private phone which basically only one person used and sure enough when he looked at his caller ID it was Ashley.

That took him by surprise. It had been such a long time since he had spoken to her and there was a reason for that. Usually, he felt extremely at ease whenever Ashley called. His heartbeat would calm down and his muscles would relax. This time however, his heartbeat rose and his mind went straight to the thought that Ashley had been hurt. He answered the call with his heart in his throat.
