Chapter 37. Fool Me Twice
Carlos was not sure if it was the post-nut clarity or the sex, which was awesome and the first he’d had in a very long time, but he found himself in a thoughtful mood at two in the morning. He looked out at the moon with the girl in his arms. “Baby girl”—she clearly didn’t want to give him her name. That was okay; it was better that way since this was a one-time thing.
He found himself thinking about that, about girls, about Zama, and about who else might be waiting for him in the future. His future. He had to return to the super consortium and to New York. He had responsibilities there, but those responsibilities, as much as he anticipated them, he dreaded them as well. Quite badly too.
He had been successful with the heist, but what was the guarantee that he would continue to be successful? And what if—what if, hell, what if he got to some point in the future where he wished he would not be successful? Where he didn’t want to be successful and wished he’d never success
