“There she is! My beloved wife is back!”

As soon as I hear Carter’s voice, my entire body trembles and the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight. It’s not a pleasant sound. I despise it so much, I want to cringe. But still, I keep quiet and as still as possible.

Some more hours have passed, the wolfsbane’s reaction has dissipated a little, though not completely, and we have arrived somewhere—sounds like the Black Onyx castle—and I hear the thoughts of the many people around me. There must be at least twenty people in this room. And Carter too.

“What’s with the head covering?” Carter asks.

“So she can’t see where we’re taking her, boss,” one of the guards reply. He sounds pretty pleased with himself.

“She already knows where this is, you dumbass!” Carter spits and slaps the man’s head. He quickly drops his smile and lowers his head. “Besides, she can read your mind, you idiot. You can’t hide anything from her!”
