Chapter 5. Vampire Child
Lola was taken aback by the revelation. A vampire child?! Can vampires be children?! Lola was told that the only way for a vampire to breed is by mating with a human; in that case, they will give birth to a dampire. If a vampire wants to make another vampire, they should transform a human being. So, a vampire child seemed unlikely, but Lola had witnessed stranger things in her recent experiences.
“Lottie, you’re a vampire? Not a dampire? I mean, you’re actually a vampire kid?” Lola asked, her voice filled with curiosity and caution.
The little girl nodded eagerly. “Yes, I am. Uncle Edgar takes care of me and my brother, Leo. He saved us after our father’s death. Now we live with him!”
Lola’s skepticism remained, but she couldn’t deny the innocence and vulnerability radiating from Lottie. She decided to approach the situation with caution.
“Where is your brother, Leo?” Lola inquired, looking around the dimly lit room.
Lottie pointed towards the door. “He’s guarding outside. He’s always looking out for us. Uncle Edgar told us to stay away from your room, but I wanted to talk to you.”
Lola felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps Lottie could be an ally in her attempt to escape. She needed to gather more information before making any moves.
“Lottie, can you tell me more about Uncle Edgar and why he brought me here?” Lola asked, sitting down on the cold stone floor motioning for the little girl to join her.
Lottie hesitated for a moment, then slowly approached and sat down beside Lola. “Uncle Edgar is not like other vampires. He’s kind and protective, but he can be strict sometimes. He brought you here because he wants you to understand that not all vampires are bad.”
Lola listened attentively, her skepticism warring with the glimmer of hope within her. “But what about the chains and the blood circle? Why am I being kept captive?”
Lottie looked down, her small hands fidgeting with the fabric of her dress. “Uncle Edgar is scared. He doesn’t want you to leave and get hurt. He thinks if you stay long enough, you’ll see that he’s not a monster.”
Lola felt conflicted. On one hand, she had experienced firsthand the fear and control Edgar had exerted over her. On the other hand, Lottie’s words hinted at a different side to him. She couldn’t ignore the possibility that there might be some truth to what the little girl was saying.
“Lottie, do you think I can trust Uncle Edgar?” Lola asked, her voice filled with uncertainty.
Lottie looked up, her innocent eyes meeting Lola’s. “I trust him. He saved us and took care of us. But you have to decide for yourself. Maybe if you give him a chance, he’ll let you go. Plus…”
“Plus, what, honey?”
“Well… I hope we can become friends. I am getting bored here. Maybe you can be my nanny!”
Lola pondered Lottie’s words, a mix of emotions swirling within her. She knew that blindly trusting Edgar would be foolish, but perhaps there was a chance for understanding, a glimmer of hope that she could find a way to escape this captivity without bloodshed.
“Thank you, Lottie,” Lola said, her voice softening. “You’ve given me a lot to think about. I appreciate your honesty.”
Lottie smiled warmly, her innocence shining through. “You’re welcome, Lola. I hope things work out for you. If you need anything, I’ll do my best to help.”
With those words, Lottie got up and quietly left the room, closing the door behind her. Lola was left alone with her thoughts, the darkness surrounding her no longer suffocating but filled with possibilities.
She knew she had a decision to make. Trusting Edgar seemed risky, but maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for understanding and freedom. Lola vowed to gather as much information as she could to assess the situation and find a way to break free, both for herself and for Lottie and Leo. They may be vampires, but they are just kids! The nutritive instinct in Lola prevented her from not worrying about them.
But how?!
After long hours, the door to the room creaked open. Lola’s senses heightened, and she instinctively tensed, prepared for whatever might come. It was Edgar.
He stepped into the room, his figure tall and imposing, yet his eyes held a hint of something different. There was a mixture of concern and contemplation on his face, a complexity that Lola hadn’t seen before. She watched him cautiously as he approached, his footsteps echoing softly against the stone floor.
Lola, still chained and within the circle of blood, remained lying on the cold ground, her eyes closed in a restless slumber. Despite the discomfort and the weight of her predicament, there was an undeniable serenity that washed over her sleeping form. The soft rise and fall of her chest mirrored a peacefulness that seemed almost out of place within the confines of her captivity.
Edgar knelt down beside her, his gaze fixed upon Lola’s face. For a moment, he allowed himself to drink in sight, the vulnerability and strength intermingled. The flickering candlelight cast gentle shadows across her features, emphasizing the delicate lines of her face and the strands of her tousled hair.
There was a mix of conflicting emotions in Edgar’s eyes as he observed her. Regret, concern, and an unexpected tenderness seemed to play upon his features. He reached out hesitantly, his fingertips hovering just above Lola’s cheek as if torn between longing and the need for restraint.
In the stillness of the room, a whispered sigh escaped Edgar’s lips. His hand retreated, a subtle sadness in his expression. He knew the gravity of his actions and the consequences that had led to this moment. But even in the midst of his remorse, there lingered a determination to protect Lola, to shield her from the dangers he believed awaited her outside.
The scene was an eerie tableau of contradictions—the captured and the captor, the vulnerable and the powerful, and the delicate peace that somehow endured in the midst of it all.
She looked delicious. And deep inside, his monstrous vampire instinct wished to drink her blood until the very last drop.
