Chapter 6. A Job
Lola stirred from her slumber, her eyes fluttering open as she became aware of Edgar’s presence beside her. She sat up slowly, the chains clinking softly, and looked at him with a mixture of caution and curiosity.
“Edgar,” she said, her voice steady but filled with determination. “We need to talk.”
Edgar nodded, a solemn expression on his face. “I understand. Please, speak your mind.”
Lola took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. “I have been thinking, and I believe there might be a way for us to find some common ground. You have expressed your desire to protect me, and I can sense a genuine concern within you. But I cannot remain a captive indefinitely.”
Edgar listened intently, his gaze fixed on Lola’s face. “I hear you, Lola. And I admit that my actions may have been misguided. But please understand, I cannot simply let you leave without ensuring your safety.”
