More murmurs arose like everyone else knew what Erv was about to say except for Cole and his people. Aren moved subtly to Cole’s right. Not quite in front, and not quite behind.

Aria felt the change in the rhythm of Cole’s breathing. She could tell he was worried. If Erv had cooked up whatever he did late at night after they left the Lycan’s court and reported it so early that the Lycan requested his presence again so fast, it was something the Lycan must have considered grave.

Erv continued. “Years ago, during the reclamation war that placed you, Cole, in power, a smaller pack along the southern ridge was eliminated.”

Cole’s jaw hardened. Of course. That was public record but of course he’d bring it up…wait, did he know more?

“They attacked our borders,” Cole replied coldly. “They were dealt with.” He saw the need to mention that.
