Chapter 22. Rejection

“As you know, I’m closer to my mother than my father. Want to know why?” River added to ask, raising an eyebrow as he stared at my mom.

There wasn’t even evidence of fear on it. River was planning to fight back from the start, and he doesn’t have any plans of stopping.

I also had a feeling that he was mocking Mom, because that’s the exact question she asked me earlier.

“Because she loves me without caging and controlling me.”

“And are you saying that I’m doing those things? That I’m… caging and controlling my daughter?” Mom’s brows furrowed as she crossed her arms and tilted her head, still maintaining her demeanor despite all of River’s provocation.

“Your words, not mine,” River answered without any hesitation, as if he had just dropped a bomb casually.
