Chapter 44. Stay Away
That was something River wasn’t able to answer immediately.
After all, even if he couldn’t see himself in front of the mirror, I knew he felt something different in his body now.
I held his forehead, and I’m right. He was burning. His skin was becoming paler, too.
What was in that water?
“Go to your room, Princess. I can manage,” River said after a few seconds, assuring that he’s fine. “You told me that you want me to stay here. In this house. For that to happen, you need to do as I say.”
Those words made me realize something. He’s right. No one should know that River was the one experiencing the symptoms now… Because he’s the one who drank the water.
But I just can’t stand leaving him alone. Especially not in this situation. The beverage was meant for me and not him.
“You need to trust me,” he said again when I wasn’t moving. He held my hand, giving me his warmth. “I won’t leave you alone. Never.”
