Chapter 59. Language
Upon hearing those words, something inside me cracked. Not in a bad way, but it felt like I had lowered my guard. I’m not even aware I’m building it around him.
“There’s no way I will leave you, Serenity. I didn’t come this far just to leave in the end,” he added in a reassuring tone. “I’ll always be with you. Remember that.”
His arms tightened around me, and like a muscle memory, I leaned into him as I pressed my forehead against his chest and listened to his heartbeat.
And for the first time since the withdrawal, I let myself believe that maybe, just maybe, I wasn’t beyond saving.

A few more days had passed, and I could feel that the drug was slowly getting out of my system.
My body started recovering, and I could remember most of my memories now. I don’t have any symptoms anymore, so Evelyn finally removed the IV drip.
“Your physical appearance is becoming better, too. It’s a good sign that you’re healing,” said Evelyn with a smile. “
