I had already mentally prepared for myself. It was expected. So yeah, I was ready.
The woman stared at me, the hardness in his facial features evident. She looked like she wanted to punch someone, especially me.
She then turned away and looked over to her friend. “Janet, can you please excuse me. I need to talk to my niece.” She flashed a smile that was clearly forced.
“Oh, of course.” The woman stood on her feet, but was stopped.
“No, you can stay here. I’m going to talk to her somewhere else,” she replied.
“Are you sure? Because I can leave, you know. It’s fine. I understand.”
“Thank you, Janet, but no, you can stay.”
Janet murmured in response, “Very well.” Her voice was quiet, and I could tell that she was uncomfortable, but persisting would only make it worse.
