Chapter 126. Treaty Agreement
The cold from the asphalt was gone. The darkened sky stretched endlessly above me, but I could see that it was already clearing up, a witness to everything I had lost and everything I had just given up.
But at least it was over. And the thought of that alone made my heart fill with relief.
The scent of smoke, blood, and ash still hung in the air, but something had changed. Something had shifted. I could feel it strongly.
I sat up slowly, muscles aching like I’d run through storms, or as if I had run a thousand miles in just an hour. I was exhausted, both mentally, emotionally, and physically.
My body was covered only in the robe my aunt had wrapped around me earlier, but I didn’t feel cold. I didn’t feel anything, actually. Just…emptiness. Or not really emptiness, if I was being honest.
Just a kind of numbness that I couldn’t really explain.
Then I heard a gasp.
