Chapter 46. My Last Memories
Lila’s POV
I knew he was right behind me. I could feel him. He knew that I was crying because I saw how he tried to peer at my face and then looked at his feet.
Why now? What was he doing here?
My heart was broken and I was still trembling, disoriented by Helena’s words.
The air still contained the dust from her tires which coiled around my ankles and made my sneakers look so old and dirty.
“ Lila.” He called.
He stared at me and then at the tarred road and his brows furrowed and I had a feeling that he knew someone was here.
Perhaps even knew who exactly had stopped by. He squinted as he peered down the road where Helena had just vanished but she had long since left.
His eyes were sunken and he looked so sad and remorseful. I could tell that there were so many things he wanted to say and I knew what he wanted to say but rather he asked:
“What was that car? Are you alright?”
“Your aunt.” I said in a cracked voice and
