Chapter 68. Painful Love

Lila’s POV

The door slammed. So hard that the room itself shook and I tried to breathe but it was difficult. Helena was gone.

Those Council folks just followed her out, robes swishing behind them

But the quiet? It was way worse than all the yelling. Seriously heavy.

Ryder stood so still, like an ancient statue daring anyone to come close, I could feel the venom radiating off him, I knew I had committed a crime. And that Ryder was angry. Very angry.

I wanted to apologize, really wanted to but my tongue felt like sandpaper and I hated myself then.

I should have stopped when Ryder said I should but I didn’t and now he was angry. Very angry and one wrong move he would release it all on me, one wrong move then this room would turn to a war zone.

I took a step and I swallowed hard. “Ryder—”
