Chapter 73. The Real Amara
Lila’s POV
Ten seconds. A full ten seconds went by after Ms. Taylor called our names, and Ryder didn’t even move, he had this stoic expression on his face like nothing excited him about life anymore.
“Lila and Ryder.” She said, grinning from ear to ear
The class room shook as some kids started clapping. Some laughed—total jerks. You could hear the fake “Oooohs” from the back.
But Caleb, I could see him from the corner of my eyes, sitting like his bum had been glued to his seat and his face was bloated like he had swallowed a pair of scissors.
And his eyes were locked on Ryder the entire time.
My turn, I guess. I stood up first. My hands felt all clammy and weird.
I didn’t want to be doing this. Not even today or forever, not when he hadn’t said a single word to me since and I was now like an arch enemy. But the silence was worse. It was so loud and everyone was watching, so I made my legs work.
Ryder finally got up, but slower.
