Chapter 18
The knock on the door came again an hour later. Cassandra hadn’t moved an inch from where she sat earlier. But she had gotten a bit of work done and felt a bit better. Perhaps if she continued, she would eventually cover a lot of ground before the deadline. She had to meet up. Failing to meet the deadline meant no money. No money meant she was fucked. Big time.
She glared at the door when Dalton knocked again.
“Go away. We can do the test thingy another time!”
“Can we?” Keith’s voice reached her ears, and she froze.
It wasn’t Dalton at the door? Fuck! She scrambled out of bed quickly, rushing to the long-ass mirror that stood in the corner of the room.
“Oh damn, I look homeless,” she whispered, staring at the mess on her head. “I’ll just tie it in a ponytail-”
Memories of him yanking her hair out of her ponytail assailed her, and she shuddered. The tension between them when he did that had only thickened instead of diminishing. She hadn’t expected
