Deep? Keith wanted to slap a palm over his face in mortification. He had said all that, and all the harridan could come with was ‘deep’?
“I don’t have a reason, though,” she continued, oblivious to his horror. “I’ve always been afraid of the dark. It’s creepy, it sucks, and you never know what could be lurking there.”
“Ah, I see,” he nodded. “Fear of the unknown then.”
“You just have to give it a name, don’t you?” She chuckled. “People like you like to work with labels.”
“Labels?” He frowned, wondering where the conversation was headed.
“Uh-huh,” she grinned. “Hell, I’m sure you already have a label up in that pretty head for me.”
“And what if I did?” He asked, cocking his head to the side.
He wasn’t sure he liked her calling him pretty, but he did like that she was looking at him and not at the food on her plate this time.
