“I’m sorry about Ari,” Cassie murmured when she finally dropped the call. Keith had stayed there the whole time they talked, and Ari hadn’t been comfortable the whole time.
“Why does she hate me?” he asked gruffly, folding his arms. He didn’t mean to sound like a petulant child. He just hadn’t expected that a mortal could carry so much indignation against him. He had heard it loud and clear in her voice.
“She doesn’t hate you, silly,” Cassandra giggled, tucking the device in her pocket and drawing closer to him.
Her face shone radiantly now. Her questions about him phasing through the walls were forgotten, and he couldn’t be more relieved. He had been so close to telling her the truth.
