Chapter 98. Change of Heart

Anna felt a wave of unease surge within her when Ricard responded that no one had visited the house today. His answer sounded convincing, but that very calmness only deepened Anna’s suspicion. The sweet perfume still lingered in the air, like a reminder that something was happening without her knowledge.

She forced a smile as Ricard began preparing the ingredients in the kitchen, but her mind was consumed with negative thoughts. “He’s hiding something from me,” Anna thought, the discomfort beginning to engulf her. She needed to stay calm, to think clearly before taking any action.

Anna stepped into the bathroom, closing the door behind her and leaning against it. She took a deep breath, trying to regulate her breathing and regain her composure. But the scent of the perfume lingered, stirring a restlessness within her. Her eyes glanced over the mirror, but it did nothing to diminish the tension rising inside.
