“There’s something I need to ask you,” I said, setting my cup down. My tone must’ve caught him off guard because he looked at me instantly, brows furrowed.
“Go ahead,” he said carefully.
“It’s about Adrian,” I began, watching the subtle shift in his expression. “I heard what you said earlier. You told him to stay away from me. Why? I mean… I know what it looked like earlier, but did you really tell him that before today?”
He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he leaned back, exhaling slowly like he was deciding how much to say. “Yes,” he finally said. “I did.”
