For a moment, I couldn’t process what I’d just heard. I turned slowly to Diego, his words still hanging in the cold air between us. “Say that again.”

He exhaled, his face grave. “I found her, Sebastian. Caroline Brooks. I found Matilda’s sister.”

The news hit me like a jolt. I took a step closer. “You’re sure?”

Diego nodded. “Positive. I finally found a lead from one of the other people close to Matilda. I followed it. Apparently she left the state for a while, I’m yet to discover what happened, but there was a rumor it was because of a man.”

“Really?” I asked curiously.

“There’s something else you should know.”

“Out with it, Diego.”

“She was said to be pregnant, Sebastian. It was around this time thirty-one years ago. I don’t think that’s a coincidence."
