Chapter 41

MELISSA

When I arrive at the hospital, I find Maggie changing her clothes and organizing her things. I smile as I close the door, feeling happy to see her out of that hospital bed. She turns and asks me to help her with her blouse, and I quickly help her.

"I'm so happy to see you back home. I've missed you," I say, hugging her gently.

"I'm also very happy to be leaving this place; the food is awful!" she complains with a funny expression, and I smile at her.

Together we leave the hospital, and inside the Uber, I lay my head on Maggie's shoulder before closing my eyes and trying to relax. I feel better knowing that she's coming home.

"You get like this when you're thinking too much; what happened?" I open my eyes and look at Maggie. I don't need to say anything because she knows perfectly well what I'm thinking right now.

"He hasn't texted you yet, Mel?" she asks, and I nod, trying not to think about it, but it seems impossible to do so.
