Chapter 23
Liquid drops, machine whirring, coffee sipping. I woke up hearing these sounds. The fluorescent lights are the first thing I see, and Lisa sitting by the couch is the next thing I see as I tilt my head.
Throbbing pain swarmed across the temples of my head. I winced at the feeling, and it made Lisa notice I was awake.
"Jill, are you ok? How are you holding up?" she asks, approaching me on the hospital bed I'm lying on.
I didn't answer her, but I only demanded something to drink. "Water," I said so weakly.
Lisa immediately gave me a bottle of water. "How are you feeling?"
After the last gulp, I glanced around the private hospital room. "My head hurts." I tried to sit up, and Lisa helped me. "What happened?"
"What do you remember?"
The last time I remember? "I… passed out?"
"At the clinic. Yes."
