Chapter 53
All of us sat patiently in the waiting room outside the surgery department. Each of us carried anxious feelings as we stared blankly towards the door or on the floor. None of us said a word for a long time after hearing she had been in a car accident. Joshua only informed us she was driving a car alone, and a drunk driver shoved her towards an electric pole.
We all tried to comfort Joshua, and he knows all of us are concerned for Jia. He couldn’t hold back his tears and now it hurts more when I see in his tuxedo pocket a box, seemingly a ring box. I knew what both of them were planning separately, and it hurts to see they never got to enjoy it.
After hours of solemnity, the door of the surgery room opened and a doctor with a nurse greeted us. His words soothed all of us, “The surgery went well.”
We all thanked them and sighed in relief. We were able to breathe normally now, but the doctor did inform us she had to take a rest as she lost a lot of blood.
