Chapter 54

My heart beat suddenly beat fast as Vince held me close. For a second, I could only see his eyes wide open as he looked straight at me. The next thing I realized, he was holding back the ladder with his arms. A man was almost hanging above the ladder.

"Are you ok?" he asked me.

"What!? I- I'm fine. Are

 ok!?" I exclaimed and helped him hold the ladder back up until the construction worker could stand on it again.

"You're not hurt?" he asks.

"I-I'm fine. Let me see that." I reached for his hand, but he retracted it away from me.

"I'm ok. I'm not hurt. My arm's alright."

I stared at him and quickly grabbed his left arm. "Ow!" he yelped

"Let's go to the hospital."

"It's fine."

"It's not. Let's go to the hospital. I'm driving. Where's your car?"
