Chapter 83
Jill invited Mrs. Valdez inside, and they talked over a cup of tea. Jill's heart was pounding in anxiety, facing her around the kitchen table. She felt the tension and hoped for the best of what was to come.
"I wanted to talk to you," Mrs. Valdez said. "I'm afraid I have been unfair to you."
"Uhm. It's alright. I understand that you want what's best for the ones you love. I respect that."
"Let me tell you something. Vince's father and I met at Oxford University when I studied psychology, and he was in law. We met at a few classes and well, for a while, we started dating. And to be honest, his parents weren't fond of their son being with an American girl."
"I'm sorry you had gone through that."
"I didn't come from money. I didn't have connections. His parents, especially his mother, were against me, but eventually, they came around."
