Chapter 37
Bartz and Nata kicked their horses into high gear and took off as fast as they could. Bartz used one arm to cradle Falca and the other to hold the reins of his frightened horse. Tomas, though barely conscious, clung to Nata as she rode forward.
Now Bartz was truly worried. East Cross Town was still leagues away, and he feared his friends would not make it. If he had led them to their deaths, it was his fault. He had let his guard down. He should have known better. When you are a knight on a mission, you are never out of danger, and you can never let your guard down. He made a mistake. Now, if a miracle didn’t happen, his friends were going to pay the price. Even riding at top speeds, Bartz was worried that Falca and Tomas would perish long before they reached safety.
“Nata, can you put a haste spell on our horses?” Bartz asked.
“I can,” Nata said. “But the stress could kill them before we get to East Cross Town.”
