Chapter 52

Morning came, and the heroes (and Adres) started up the winding mountain trail. The higher they went, the smaller and more jagged the trail got. But they pushed forward. By mid-morning, they reached the top of the mountain. They came to an ancient weather-worn wooden bridge held together with slim ropes spanning the gap between mountains. The heroes stood and looked across the abyss.

“Wonderful,” Nata said dryly, “another bridge. And I was so fond of the last one we had to cross.”

“The dragon we seek lives over there,” Adres said, pointing to the other side.

“We seek?” Bartz asked him.

“Can anybody here say DEATH TRAP?” Falca said.

“I’ll lead the way just to show how safe it is,” Adres said.

“Right, like that makes me feel better,” Tomas said. He pulled a bolt from his backpack and started tinkering with it.

“I don’t see where we have a lot of other options here,” Bartz told his friends.

“Why doesn’t just Nata zap you to the other side
