The heroes raced over to Blue. She was lying on her back, dripping with blood, cut up in more places than even Tomas could count. She had to be in great pain but wasn’t showing it. “Well done,” she said weakly.
Opal walked up and gently stroked the dragon’s head. “It’s okay,” Opal said, “you’ll be fine.”
Blue closed her eyes, soothed, and relaxed. Without warning, the dragon was gone. In its place lay a woman clothed entirely in tattered blue rags with blue skin, hair, and even fingernails. Bartz, Tomas, and Falca were too surprised to say anything, but Nata, who had more experience with the magical, unpredictable side of the universe, took the transformation in stride.
“Is this Adres’s doing?” she asked Opal.
Opal nodded. “He created Blue with the ability to morph into a human. He wanted a weapon that could easily infiltrate any of the territories. Once inside, she could change into her dragon form and wreak havoc.”
